My First Duathlon
So after getting back from my trip I got an email from someone in my running group about a new Duathlon in Woodstock , NY. Cool ! Thats only an hour away.
The Woodstock Classic is a 2m/12mi/2mi race. Lots of hills. In fact the first mile of the run has some serious climbing, then a 1 mile downhill thats hard on the quads. Then you've got 12 miles of rollers with 1 fairly challenging climb.
I don't know why I decided to do this race. I was rusty from being away, plus I carried an extra 4-5 lbs courtesy of the great French pastries ! Damn those Frenchies...they bake too damn good! For some reason I thought my base would suffice for such a short race. Well, it sorta worked. It took me 74 mins. Not great at all, but not too bad. Placed 34th OA out of 80-ish I think. There were some super fast guys from the Hudson Valley Tri Club there. John McGovern aka Tetsuoni ,Worlds Du Champ, sub5 HIM'r ,AmZoF RD came in 2nd.
Alexander Sherwood ( SOS winner ) won the race and a bunch of other speedsters came in the top 10.
Hey for 15.00 bucks it was the best race going ! Post race food was catered by Taco Juans and was yum ! Cake too., although I laid off that stuff as I'm now in fighting mode .I'm going to go ahead and sign up for another Ironman in 07 ! I've got some unfinished business in Lake Placid, so I'm hoping to get in thru the back door.
The goal is 13:30.
I think this is very doable for me this time around. I now know what I need to eat on the bike and how to adjust my training so I don't peak too early like this year.
Goal weight is 165lbs ( 2006 was 176lbs )
B-fat 6 % ( 2006 BF was 9 % )
HIM needs to be at 5:35 ( 2006 was 5:49-6:15-22 )
Also I'm getting a coach this time around.... so I hope you all tag along for the ride.
Oh yeah- duathlons rock ! I think I'll do the American Zofingen in 07, but just the short course as I'm sure I'll be whipped from my IM.
