A Sorta..Kinda Milestone

To kick off my biggest build period for Ironman Lake Placid I decided to shake up my scheduled long run of 17-18 miles today by running from my house to Kinderhook village and run the OK5K as a tempo then run home for a total of 18.3 miles.

I was hoping to leave the house by 6:35 am. This way I could afford a leisurely pace for the first 8 miles into the village, get there, schmooze a little..but I didn't get out the door until 7:15ish.
The race starts promptly at 9 am, and race day registration which we needed to do ended at 8:30.

As luck would have it C caught up to me in the car at the 6.5 mile point and I hitched a ride to insure sign up.

Perfect coolish weather for a 5K. Team Utopia was out in force as were some cherry pickers looking to bag some hardware.

I new that if I tried to be a hero the run home was going to hurt and my scheduled 105 mile ride for Sunday would be brutal.

Long story short....I clocked a 26:10. Good tempo run. Took about 30 mins to say hi to some friends, got some water and flat coke that was in the car, and took off for the 9ish miles home.

The run home was good til mile 16. I was running low and the 2 hard candies I brought with me wore off. By the time I got into Main St. I ran into Tomo who was at the midway point of his 20 miler. This was great as he brought me home w/o me walking a step. He's a great motivator.

So this was either a benchmark achievement ...or a real bad move which will rear its ugly head on tomorrow's long ride.

I'm horizontal right now and eating away.

Enjoy your Sunday.
