Yesterday & Today..........

No its not the title to a Beatles re-mix but a sordid tale of how my Camp week is going.

So after Saturdays 18 miler, I sucked it up and rode off with T to put in my 3rd 100+ miler of 6 planned.
In all honesty I really wanted to ride alone . T has logged 8 century rides already and is capable of a 5:40 ride at LP as well as a 3:30 run which he did there last year. He's basically a walking lung.

All of the routes we pick for our long rides have more climbing than Placid. We both subscribe to Gordo's theory that the race should seem easier than the training.

This ride felt fine until mile 60. The energy crash hit me good after that. It didn't matter what I ate or drank, I was fading. By 75 miles, we hit the hills of Poestenkill. These are steep hills in a sequence of 5 about 1/4 mile per hill. What sucked was that it never flattened out for recovery, it just was less steep at the breaks.
Its the first time in perhaps 5 yrs that I felt like I might have to dismount. By now I was running on rage and anger. T crested the last hill in no time, and I never liked getting dropped like that., after all I was a better biker a few years ago.

From 80 to 95 it was raining good. I had slicks on, so we slowed the pace down a bit and sure enough I picked up a smidge of a second wind. The last 6 miles home we had a break in the weather and hammered home.

105 miles in 7 hrs. Real time about 6:40 as I don't stop my computer for pee stops or the other stops for water and the one where we ran into some other bike pals.

Considering my Big Run on Saturday I am taking the liberty to pat myself on the back.

Today:

After an epic post-ride eating session, I woke up feeling good actually. Yeah to the HMB that I'm using. Worth its weight in gold. Protein replacement is a MUST during these hi volume sessions.

Headed to the pool for a 1 hr swim. Mostly aerobic.

Got thru it OK, my legs are very greatful for the cooling off period.

If I get time today, I'll try to sneak in a 30 mile cool down ride.

Tomorrow is a bad weather day, so its 2 hrs on the MTB and a 6 mile trail run, then 45 min swim.

So there it is....Day 3 of the 10 Day Camp !

Whats in your wallet ?
