Maxed OUT !!
I'm going to write this down while its still fresh in my head.
So Run Camp is more than half way done and I'm hanging on by a thread. I left off last Friday with an easy 5 miles. Here's an update:
Sat- AM swim to loosen up legs. 7 mile hills @ Easy
Sun: Off day option : I took it, but replaced it with easy spin on the Mountain bike for 75 mins
Mon: Too Icy outside to run safely so did a 1 hr treadmill run at Zn3 then tempo for the last 10 mins.
Today's W/O was another Interval session with a twist. Did an easy 8 mile WU as it was about 24 F out and almost too cold because of the high winds, but Hyannis is historically in the 20's so good dress rehearsal for clothing choice. Note to self....just because gloves are Thinsulate doesn't mean they're warm enough.
At the 1:45 hr mark we warmed up enough to give the 5K Interval a shot. Same as last Tuesday with the exception of a flat course this time. Start 30 secs Hard then Marathon pace of 9:20/mi then Medium hard then MP....repeat til 5K. The difference in this workout is to test my legs after 8 miles of WU.
For some reason this one was harder than the Hill session last week, but then again its probably because running consecutive 5K's can hurt a smidge. It took 27 mins to complete this, which means I was holding 9 min/miles at LT pace ( I could have used a GU before the start ) vs. 24ish last week w/ a hill. We're estimating that I am on target for holding 9:50's at this point in time for 26.2.
If the next 3.5 weeks remain solid and my taper gets me fully rested..9:30-40 might be a doable pace. T thinks that a solid sub4 is still a year away for me.
At best a 4:15 is what I'm looking at.....anything better is a gift. I'll be happy with that since my ultimate goal is to improve to a 5:30 or better off the bike at IMLP.
This would get me close to my 13:59:59 , or better in July : )
I can't believe I'm posting this as my schedule today is insane, but I feel its part of the commitment to time management and multi-tasking thru the course of one's day that makes them more efficient.
As an after- thought I put in a solid half day working in my darkroom yesterday. Its very difficult to eliminate all the odors of photo chemicals and I'm wondering if the Sodium Thiosulfate in the fixer bath made for reduced o2 efficiency in my run today ? I had no choice really as I was facing some deadlines, so the work needed to get done. In the back of my mind though I'm sure that didn't help. Oh well.
Its stinking cold and windy outside, but I'm healthy, happy and another day wiser so I'll take it.
