NC Tri Race Report
All things considered I'm happy with my effort for the race.
Tied for 50th place overall.
It was good to see all my pals racing this one. At least 4 were also at IMLP, and a few other Ironman vets were around to cherry pick.
Swim- I went all out for the first 150 yds and boy did that hurt. I tried to hang on to some fast feet and was good to go up until the turn buoy where I lost them to some posers ! I ended up losing that fast group and came in with the 2nd pack. Not sure where I ranked OA in the swim , but I remember seeing 23 or 24th overall. Not as good as 05 when I came in 12th out of the water.
Bike- My HR was up there . Higher than I've ever had it and was very uncomfortable for the first 10 miles I'd say. Pretty safe to say I was at 85% ! Scary stuff as you are feeling like you're on the verge of blowing up any second.
Decided on racing with Eva my new Scott CR1. Awesome in the climbs, but not anywhere near as fast as my P3C. I felt it in the descents and flats. Sorta kinda regretted not using the Cervelo as there weren't as many climbs as I remembered. Oh well, it was still fun racing w/ a road bike, but doubt if I'll do that again.
My time reflected a 19 mph avg, which was 1 mph slower than my time in 05, but taking into consideration that IMLP was just a little over 2 weeks ago.....not too shabby.
Run- Got off the bike and my HR finally settled. Felt relaxed for the first 1.5 miles and just went into cruise control. The 1 .2 mile hill was as tough as ever but I met my goal of not walking a step. The hill is similar to Lake Placid's Olympic Ski jump, but way steeper and a mile. Its just plain ugly.
Total Time was 1:56 for 375 yd S/19 mi Bike/4.5 mile run
Taking a solid 10 days easy. I'd like to get as recovered as possible before I decide what to do with the rest of my season. There's a good chance that I'm over-reached and if I keep at it, I might ruin a chance of a good late Fall marathon.
Tomorrow I'll post about the huge invasion of family that has descended upon my home. Its insane , but interesting what my wife has done to our normally tranquil surroundings. I'm hoping to hold it together for the next 8 days............................
