Dog Days
I'm lucky to have some land.
For one thing , I cherish privacy. Having lived in a small hamlet of less than 1000 folks, we grew weary of everyone knowing everybody's business.
After Ironman I was steeped in over-grown grass madness. So for the last week I've been mowing with my tractor and getting a hand on things.
Today was 5 hrs of field work. Things are finally looking good and presentable. The pool is open once again and the garage from hell is taking shape.
These are domestic issues that got put off during training. Having these under control feels good as seeing my home all whacked didn't feel good. Being a true Virgo, I am a neat-freak.
I 've gotten a few workouts in. A few pool sessions and 2 decent 1 hour rides and some semi-decent 5 mile runs.
My body feels like its out of the hole.....I think. Not sure if I put myself in one during May or that my daughter who has Mono affected me in some slight way. I'm not making excuses, but it just bugs the crap out of me that I had nothing to give on race day. Even before my GI issues I felt that my bike was deteriorating.
I'm not going to beat myself up about it as this comes with the territority, you stick around long enough and you're bound to have a day like I had.
Fatigue is tricky. In my case, I love to train, and perhaps during mid-May I lost the ability to read where I was at. Just like last year, my peak came late, or as some have suggested , I peaked twice.
This is where one can go nuts. How do you time your peak ?
JFT is how I've been doing things, but I think Periodization needs to be more of a factor for me.I'm thinking of biting the bullet next year as far a getting a coach.
The Dog Days of August are here. 90 degrees outside w/ lots of haze and humidity. LOVE IT !!!
Did I mention I picked up a new road bike . Yeah..........I got a case of GAS ( Gear Aquisition Syndrome ) last month.
Stay posted for Part II w/ pics.
