Diner Sign,Albany,NY 2004 Gelatin Silver photograph

7-27-06

One of the things I am always in search of are symbols or signs that are iconic in American culture.

I love typography and its application towards sign making. Whether its a fancy neon sign, or an old rusty one by the side of a barn out in the country- I seek them out. I guess there's an enduring grace to them that I find noble.

I love the religious ones. " JESUS SAVED ME TODAY " or " R E P E N T " I find a lot of those here in upstate New York.

I've got a nice body of work that deals with signs found in the American Landscape. I thought it might make a nice second book, since I'm not too happy about the progess on the current draft of my sophomore effort I think I'll start putting together a sequence.

Ciao

Cool photo. We have some painted barns around here that are very unusual. I always thought of taking some pictures but I'm not a photographer.

Yes, I have made goat cheese, yogurt, pudding, cream soups. My very favorite goat's milk product is goat's milk ice-cream. It's yummah!

You can buy some goat's cheese at the supermarket. I have before but I notice it can taste "goat-y". That is because if you run a buck(boy goat) in the same pasture as the milking does, the milk will taste "off".

If you have never been around a male goat, they REALLY stink. They pee in their beards and have a musky scent.

More than you probably ever wanted to know about goats! :)
