Trying to Taper Off
I've been taking it fairly easy the last few days. Work has picked up so reducing my volume has been a no brainer. Picked up my swimming again which feels really really smooth. My speed is up and I'm cruising fast in very clean water. My technique is more of a fast glider as my SPL hovers in 16-17 range per 25 SCY's. I've always believe in strong hip rotation with fairly heavy catch. The other day I played my favorite game in the pool where I just cruise along putting in my yards for the day , pretending I'm a Great White humming the tune from Jaws...waiting for someone to jump in the next lane ..ready to pounce for some speed work..all in good fun of course. Doesn't work all the time, as I have had my ass handed to me in the past.Usually by some college swimmer home from school getting some pool time in.
Yesterday I got in a good speed session.Warmed up with a 3 mi Trail run then hit the track which is so conveniently located next to the schools XC course, which is my trail run. Ended up with some 200+400 and Fartlek's.3 miles worth.
It felt good to get some of the turnover back into my legs as with all the
volume work, I've definitely lost speed. I'll probably try to do at least 3 more sessions like this then call my run plan DONE !
Also got in a MTB ride in yesterday. Did 2 hrs around the trails and backroads of Old Chatham. Man do I love off road biking ! I think its the feeling of not worrying so much that some a-hole talking on the cell while driving is going to hit you. I know you don't go as fast as road cycling, but I enjoy the more technical aspects of it.You're using more skills while on the trail, thats for sure.
I think I'm going to upgrade from my hardtail to a new Specialized Epic full suspy.
I plan on doing a few XTerras next season as well as a 24hr race...so I'm going to need a new ride as my Fuji is a good bike, but its more of a entry level machine.
I'm shipping my steed from the 04-05 season to Norway today. That Giant was a good bike to me. Super light and fast. It was just too small in a way, but I hope the new owner takes care of her. She still looks brand new.
