Portofino, Italy 2006

This past weekend went by nicely. Spent Friday chilling at home with C .
Made probably the best Chicken Curry I've ever made...........adding raisins was the key !

Saturday the Cookies ( our pals Tom & Karen Cook ) came down from Rotterdam to join us for their first ever 16 mile run. So far they've been doing all their running on mostly flat terrain and I encouraged them to do this route of mine that comprised of mostly trail running with lots of rollers, and some climbs, but all done at a very easy pace.

They held well up until the 12 mile mark. Karen seems to have the beginnings of ITBS , and Tom needs a bit more durability. I told them that its something that takes years to develop and that no amount of training can bring rushed results.

They walked the rest of the 4 miles back, but all in all they're making good progress.

I'm doing the Central Park 60K ultra this Saturday. My buddy talked me into it. I figure I'll do 20-26 miles , and make it my winter marathon instead of Houston or Austin. Hey its 25.00 to enter. You get a shirt, 9 scenic loops around Central Park, aid stations.....not too shabby.

Doubt if I can do all 37+ miles, nor would I want to, but after Saturday's 16 miler I think I could put in a good 20-26. I finished the 16 feeling like 4 more was a non- issue, so I'll take that as a good indicator.

A few weeks ago during the expo in Schenectady,NY for the Stockadeathon race I met the Great Bill Rodgers, 4X Boston Marathon winner ( 2:11 was his PR ). During his talk he said something that will always stick with me............" The MIND is the athlete !. The body will follow ".

He signed my race bib, gave me a signed poster and talked to my daughter for a while about her athletic endeavours. What a great guy ! Very inspirational !
