Close Call-

I started getting a little freaked out about my knee pain, so I took most of yesterday off to let it subside a bit. I'm sure its a mild Patellar Tendonitis issue due to the heavy bike miles. I also remembered that one of those sessions was an all out hour of 1/2IM pace TT in BG mode plus climbing....so needless to say my 42 year old knees have the right to bitch and moan once in a while.

Last year I suffered chronic ITBS.Mainly due to poor stretching, not enough massage and my running form was still that of a heel stiker. Over the winter I dramatically improved by Biomechanics and basically had 8 months of pain free hi volume base + build work, so the knee pain was hard to swallow and in all honesty I started having nightmares of a bad run at LP after the bike.

With all this in my head........I headed out for todays ride with a whole lotta caution. Take it easy, go with as flat a route as possible, which around here is impossible. Also , I thought I'd cap the ride off at a 25-30 mile limit plus a 45min T- run .

I said to myself if I can get thru this all will be OK once again.

The bike started out fine and I tried to relax and just enjoy the day., It worked ! Grannied for the most part with only a few periods of steady sprinkled in , just to test the knees so to speak.

Took me 1:24 to complete 25 miles, so it was definitely a Driving Miss Daisy pace.

Got home, stretched my IT bands a bit then got on the TM for a 45 minute run which was pain free !!!!! YEAH !

So lesson learned is- BEWARE of Mega / Epic Weeks ! Periods of Rest in between 70-90 mile bike days are a must. At least 24 hrs. Don't T Run after one of these bikes., Save it for the next day, or the race.

Your miles for running are already in the bank. No need to call on them too often, or they won't be there to withdraw on race day.

Get and maintain the volume thru frequency.

Keep the intensity down from now til taper. Think Hadds for all 3 disciplines.

Sleep and Naps are mission critical at this point.

Diet and Nutrition are also priorities from this moment on. Schedule a lean week next week so as to be ready for taper. Can't eat as much as the hi volume weeks.

176 lbs this week. Very good for a 5"10 build.

Need to be at 172 by July 1st to make the 168lb " Fighting Weight "
