So anyways...........
I've been noticing how crappy television has gotten the last few years. Frankly , I feel its socially detrimental to have kids under 18 watch TV these days. Most of the series programming deals with some form of violence, crime,autopsies....and whats with all the lawyer and doctor themes ?
If its not of the above, its a Reality based show. Now, not all of them are bad. There are a few that I think are worth watching and have merit, one being the Amazing Race. Good show .
Another theme thats is prevalent are the talent type shows . American Idol was the first and now there are a slew of bandwagoneers that just make me cringe.Mediocrity in America is alive & well and thriving floks !
We are a culture that spends less and less time reading and writing to expand our minds- and more time dulling our minds with useless trivia.......having celebrities like Dr. Phil and Oprah telling people how to lose weight. Thats right ! A FAT guy telling people how to lose weight.!
Anyways........enough of that sarcasm and negativity on my part, as I am a person that believes in live and let live, but I thought I'd go ahead and rant a bit on my blog.
To put my money where my mouth is I would love to see a show(sit-comedy) that harkens back to the classic days of TV. Something like the Dick Van Dyke Show, Cheers and Leave it To Beaver.
Here's an idea:
A show about a Gas Station/Deli/Convenience store in Staten Island that is run by a Korean, a Pakistani, a Jew and a cowboy. Loosely based on the Rupert character Letterman has on his show a few times a week.
It would deal with just the day to day comedy of life. Kinda like Seinfeld. A show about nothing really.
Another idea I'm developing at the moment is for a dramatic series called " SHOOTER ".
Almost autobiographical in nature. Its about a 30 something documentary photographer that is not unlike Sebastian Junger. Handsome in a rugged Marlboro man way. A maverick that lives on the edge of life making up rules as needed.
His weekly assignments take him on journeys most of us only read about. The shooter does more than just take pictures, he gets involved , at times more than he'd like.
Episodes would range from following a crew into a remote part of Alaska to fix a rupturing pipeline thats getting worse and threatening thousands of miles of tundra- to uncovering a sinister plot to assasinate the Pope while on assignment in Florence.
At the end of each episode he would return to his hideaway ranch in Montana where his faithful dogs are eager to have him back after being cared for by the local hottie 20 something that is secretly in love with him.
The end of each episode would be images resulting from the assignment scrapbook style.
If Sting were an actor......I'd cast him to play the part.
